Hearty Meal at Helen's Delicia

For the cover I took the infamous smile of the Cheshire Cat and superposed it to a ~1940s ad for cooking pots

After watching a season of Yellowjackets, which at the time didn't had other seasons so the show was still fire, my fondness for cannibalism in stories was rekindled. I proceeded then to search for the niche, but found mostly that authors choose not to work from the perspective of the cannibal, but rather they have them as an antagonist or side character.

My sole purpose for the short story was to make a cannibal origins sort of tale that takes cannibalism out of these outlandish dystopian scenarios, so remote the reader feels "yeah, this will never happen to me" and brought it here, to the city, to your local diner.

I was overall satisfied with the result, it's entertaining, it's short... I felt like it could've been more extensive and that the eagerness of the protagonist to turn to crime remeined functional but not close enough, it's more of an urban legend kind of story rather than the "it can happen to you too" that I was going for.
